Resourcefulness: the ability to find quick and clever ways to overcome difficulties

I have seen many cases of resourcefulness demonstrated by the members of my family. I have also heard  immigrants who tell how they have left their country of origin with " less than $ 300  pocket - " to build a new life abroad. The ingenuity is now widely regarded as a great skill to develop for any leader. But where I come to find a creative way to make it work all things and meet challenges, comes a lot more of a way of life.

During the last decade, I have held positions of affairs in which I was the sole representative of my client in Canada. Therefore, all of the strategies and activities the client channeled through me. I had to work independently and effectively. The ingenuity and creative thinking have been essential to my success.

I share here three professional experiences that strike me because they illustrate the importance of developing the resourcefulness as a state of mind.

The first example dates back to the time where I have carried out a tour of the development of the market in Paris. The objective was to establish key relationships with market players and the leaders of the community being targeted as well as complete the branding of approximately 100 stores. I not only had to plan this trip with care, but also prioritize the people and the meetings that would have the most impact on the results of the company.

I have sought consular offices, trade associations, agencies, organizations, community leaders, clergy, sponsors and influencers that could facilitate the development of the brand and provide valuable information on the targeted community. I planned strategically our visits on the ground, and I've met many people of quality. This trip has allowed me to confirm that with good planning, it was possible to develop in any foreign city where there was a strong cultural community.

The second example, it is when we produced a radio advertising to be aired in Canada for a company in jamaica. The text had already been approved by the director of marketing. However, the client believed that the voice of the actor does not seem to be quite a jerk. My way to make sure that we had the good voice was to hire directly in Jamaica. I quickly looked in my network to find someone who could help me to find the voice perfect. I've received a few references, fortunately, one of my distributors had a cousin who was an influencer in Jamaica. I have contacted the agent, I received his voice samples, and we quickly reached an agreement. Less than a week later, we received a new radio advertisement that met all the expectations of the client.

The third example is when we participated in a festival of the Caribbean in Calgary where we have had to do some research and hire a team of local developers to enable the event. I contacted community organizers and various leaders to help me find developers that met our criteria. We finished the interviews, the hiring process and training virtually and rented the necessary equipment. We have organized the purchasing, shipping and receiving of equipment Montreal. I have meticulously scoured all the steps and I flew to Calgary to enable this major event.

This is the sort of challenges that motivate me.

Can you think of a time when you were resourceful?

I would like to hear from you. Kindly share your thoughts on the resourcefulness.
